With the state of the economy on everyone's mind and fear of a recession looming, President Bush called upon lawmakers to move forward with some sort of economic stimulus package to help put money into the hands of consumers. Bush, in making his announcement, steered clear of laying out specifics, but the White House is considering giving individuals and households tax rebates of $800 and $1,600, respectively, according to a Congressional aide familiar with talks the president has had with lawmakers.

With the chance of receiving a rebate a real possibility, don't expect to see anything in your mailbox anytime soon. Exact details on the possible rebate are still unclear, and since we are currently entering the busiest part of tax season, many experts expect the earliest possibility to see this money would come this summer. Even with this new money that will be given to consumers, it is important to note that this is just a small and temporary fix to a much larger issue. In the coming months we should learn more about the state of our economy and hopefully see some long-term policy changes that will help stabilize things for years to come.
