Celebrate Independence Day by Reviewing Your Progress Towards Financial Independence

Saturday July 5, 2008
When we think of the 4th of July, it typically conjures up images of fireworks, cookouts, and time with friends and family. But what we often don't think of is that as we enter July, we're already heading into the second half of the year. That's right, the first half of 2008 is already behind us, and we have less than six months to go.

This turning point serves as a good reminder to look back at our financial goals and progress made during those first six months. It doesn't do any good to aimlessly wander through your finances, so most of us have set goals. It could be to pay off a certain amount of debt, save a little more towards retirement, or build up your emergency fund to a set amount. Whatever your goals are, now is a great time to check in on them. Have you stayed on track? Are you doing better than expected? Worse? You need to regularly monitor your progress so that you can make changes if needed so that you'll reach those goals by the time you had set out for.

So, if you're celebrating your country's independence, take a minute to look at your own financial independence and see where you stand. If you haven't set any concrete financial goals, then now is the perfect time to do so!
