Investing in a Bear Market

Sunday December 7, 2008

Does reading the news and checking your investment account statements make you sick to the stomach? You're not alone. Global markets continue to be extremely volatile and remain down upwards of 40% for the year. It may seem like investing in this market is a lost cause, but there are plenty of things you can do to make sure you're doing the best you can.

Many people are pulling out of the market completely, but that may not be the best long-term solution. While this may lead to short-term safety of principal, if you're investing for the long-term, it can actually do more harm than good. So, it is important to understand what your investment objectives are, your risk tolerance, and the time horizon for the funds. Only then can you decide what, if any action to take. Here are some tips on how you can weather a bear market.
