Use the Internet to Get the Best Deal on a New Car

Did you pay more than you should have for your last new car? Did you spend uncounted hours driving from dealership to dealership looking for the best deal, or exhausting hours haggling about the price and the value of your trade-in?

If you're in the market for a car, you can save time, money, and frustration by using these sites on the Internet.

cars.com

Cars.com has prices and specs for both new and used cars; online financing tools; buying and selling advice; model reports with reliability data and safety and performance features for new and used vehicles from 1983 to the present; a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) Buying Guide; Model Year Reviews, with photos; and lots of advice for car buyers.

autos.yahoo.com

Yahoo's auto site provides most of the same information as cars.com, plus the added benefit of being able to compare multiple cars side-by-side, a nice feature if you're waffling between two or more makes and models. The site has links to clubs, repair services, bulletin boards, and other resources for each make. You can also bid on used cars in Yahoo's online auctions.

edmunds.com

Edmunds.com offers new and used car reviews, prices, road test information on 1995 through last year's models, and safety information, including crash-test data and recalls. Wondering how much your car would be worth at trade-in or resale? Highlight your make in the used car prices section, choose the year, then the model, click on vehicle pricing, then on "Appraise This Vehicle." You'll be asked to identify equipment that was optional at the time the car was purchased, and enter your mileage for an online appraisal of your car's value.

Edmunds.com also has a good safety section, which includes information on recalls, sharing the road with trucks, crash test data, and more.

carpoint.msn.com

Carpoint.msn.com provides online quotes on new cars and trucks. Complete an online form, choosing body style, color, and options, and you'll be contacted within 48 hours by the nearest qualified dealer with "the most competitive price" it offers on that car. The site also provides links to pricing information, Kelly Blue Book pricing, reviews, financing, and insurance.

autobuy.com

Autobuy.com automobile super-site covers any and all topics related to cars, including trends, consumer tips, road tests, top picks, and more.
