If you’re unemployed, underemployed, or self-employed, there’s a good chance you’ll be on the hook for finding your own health insurance. In most cases people have health coverage through their employer, but with many people unemployed or only working part-time that means more people than ever are seeking out individual coverage.

Whatever you do, this isn’t an area of your finances you want to skimp on. Yes, it may be expensive, but it only takes one serious illness or injury to bankrupt you if you don’t have insurance. Nobody likes paying insurance premiums, but when it comes to your health you can never be too cautious.
