Definition: Adjusted gross income is used in federal tax filings. AGI is your gross income minus applicable deductions. You will see AGI listed on the most common personal income tax forms and this number is used as a limiting factor in a number of tax deductions and credits. AGI also limits eligibility in certain types of retirement accounts such as a Roth IRAs.
